I N the face of opposititm by several local operators, Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., were last week granted a new picking-up point at Maghull for their express service between Liverpool and Blackpool.

An application in June by . several excursion operators, including Ribble, to pick up at Maghull (The Commercial Motor, June 20) was refused by the North Western Traffic Commissioners.

Ribble were last week granted also a new picking-up point at Magdalene Square, Netherton, on excursions and tours from Liverpool.

Mr. S, D. Walker, for the applicants, said that in the Netherton area there were about 5,000 new houses and some 25,000 people, many of whom had been rehoused from Bootle and had previously, enjoyed Rib,ble's services.

Population 'Increased

Supporting the application, a representative of Bootle Corporation said that there had been an increase in population and the point in Magdalene Square had been designed as a bus station. Most of the Netherton populatiOn. were former Bootle residents; who had previously used

Mr. Walker then called three residents of Netherton, who all said that the granting :of the pickihg-up points would be --a valuable amenity. After a brief adjournment, the objectors, with the exception of 'G. Peascod, Ltd., withdreW their opposition to the picking-up point at Netherton, but said that if it were granted, they would shortly make similar applications.

Mr. A. R. Jones, of Lawrensons( Coaches, said that if the Maghull application were granted, he and all the other objectors would sutler abstraction.

Mr. Walker replied that the classes of passenger whom excursions operators and express-service operators carried differed considerably.

Mr. F. Williamson, chairman of the Commissioners, said the objectors had not established that there would be abstraction. The proposed .Netlierton "applications by the objectors would be judged on their meritS,
