AT a meeting of the directors of Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., on Tuesday, the chairman, Mr. G. N. Vansittart announced that, in accordance with the retirement plan of the company, he would retire at the end of next month. He is to be succeeded by the present managing director, Mr. Philip Copelin.

Mr. Vansittart, who is 65, joined General Motors in Antwerp in 1925, and was appointed regional director for Europe in 1934. Five years later he became regional director for the United Kingdom and was elected chairman of Vauxhall Motors in 1947, and of General Motors, Ltd., in London, in 1953.

Mr. A. W. Laskey, assistant managing director, is also to retire next month after 35 years' service. He went to Vauxhall Motors at Luton as general supply manager in 1929.

Other appointments include those of Mr. J. R. Pearson as deputy chairman, and Mr. C. A. Riddell as a member of the board. Mr. Copelin continues to hold the office of managing director.

BECAUSE of the construction of a new northern approach, it is proposed to close the Blackwail Tunnel, London, to vehicular traffic from 4 p.m. on Saturday to 5 a.m. on Monday during the following week-ends: August 23-25; August 30-September 1; September 6-8; September 13-15; September 20-22; and September 27-29.

T.U.F. NEARING END

FORMED by United Dominions Trust, Ltd., to provide capital for the purchase of vehicles from British Road Services, Transport Unit Finance, Ltd., is likely shortly to be wound up " Balances outstanding are now rapidly running down, and the purposes of T.U.F. will soon have been completed," U.D.T. announce.
