Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A,FTER evidence by a witness Ahat W. rt Jones and Sons (Bradford), Ltd., were unable to supply a vehicle at 1+ hours' notice, Maj. F. S. Eastwood, Yorkshire Licensing Authority, last week granted the company an additional vehicle on B licence. British Railways, the only objectOrs, who called no evidence, maintained that the application was most undesirable.

A witness from a concern of shipping and forwarding agents in Bradford said that on -two days a week the applicants were unable to oblige when they were asked at 4 p.m. to collect goods by 5.30 p.m. that day. The shipping agents were .finding difficulty in obtaining vehicles from other hauliers.

Mr. T. B. Atkinson. for British Railways, said the application was ridiculous. A customer was asking for a vehicle to be hanging on a peg—a state of affairs often deprecated by the Licensing Authority.

Granting the application, Maj. Eastwood said it was reasonable, as W. Jones and Sons were having to hire from other hauliers.

OPERATORS BEGIN LOCK-OUT

ROAD transport operators in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Washington State, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming began on Monday a lock-out in retaliation against a strike in California by members of the Teamsters' Union. The strike was called after the employers refused to grant a wages increase of $4.57 a day, which had been given to drivers in San Francisco.

Both the Teamsters' Union and the employers have agreed to mile perishable goods and emergency and medical supplies. They will, however, not handle other traffic.
