Van registrations drive March sales
(7V SALES WERE up 7.3% in the first quarter. due mainly to van registrations, with truck sales remaining depressed.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), van registrations through March were up 14.3% year-on-year to 34,691 units, taking year-todate figures up to 55,215. a rise of 13.4%.
Although 4,209 trucks were registered in March. matching last year. 01 year-to-date figures paint a harsher picture. with truck registrations falling 24.2% to 7,132 units.
"March saw an improvement in UK van registrations, with the third successive month of growth. Truck registrations remain extremely low, reflecting last winter's deeply depressed demand," says Raul Everitt, chief executive of the SMMT.
