Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

RESIDENTS IN the Wirral are fighting to prevent hundreds of trucks using their roads as part of plans to build a regional distribution centre nearby.

Last year Aldi supermarket was granted permission by Ellesmere Port and Neston Council to build the hub on a former industrial site at Neston, which would create 200 jobs and serve 35 stores across the North-West. However, locals are now campaigning to have the decision

reversed after discovering that trucks would have to travel on the A551 through the local villages of Thornton Hough and Barnston.

Wirral Council says it is aware of the concerns of Wirral residents regarding the opening of the distribution centre. A spokeswoman says:"Cabinet members have now agreed to appoint consultants to investigate the possibility of imposing weight restrictions on local roads. "We have also contacted Elles

mere Port and Neston Council again to urge them to revoke the original planning decision."

Following a meeting with Wirral South MP Ben Chapman, Aldi managing director Matthew Barnes says he will look at the possibility of reducing the volume of traffic along the road. "While it is unfortunate that concerns about Baniston Road didn't come to light during the planning process, I look forward to working with Mr Chapman to

alleviate the worries of his constituents," he adds.

• TDG is to appeal against an overnight delivery ban at its West Hallam depot.

Erewash Borough Council refused to lift a ban on movements between 9pm and 4am after residents complained that the extra deliveries would keep them awake at night. However, TDG argues that longer hours would protect 200 jobs and create 150 more positions at the site.
