Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALASTAIRALLAN'S letter (CM 25 March) has prompted me to add my views. If Frampton and co are so worried about a few owner-drivers being unsafe if we are to be exempt from the WTD, I hope he will stop using Spanish sub-contractors when the Directive comes into effect, on the grounds of road safety (I don't

think he will though, do you?).

Instead of attacking ownerdrivers I believe operators should concentrate their efforts on lobbying the government about the Eastern European invasion we are about to get and making sure they are charged for using our roads before the 2008 start date for Lorry Road User Charging.

Surely a system similar to the vignette and collected by the ferry/tunnel companies as they enter the country would be quite simple to set up? If this is not in place then there's a real threat to our industry. Andy Carter C&M Haulage Daventry, Northants
