Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Oldham truck maker Seddon Atkinson has confirmed that it will be taking Cummins' new ISM 11-litre electronic engine, including the latest 440hp M440E version with 2,100Nm of torque, following its official launch at nexl, month's IRTE Show at Telford.

A pilot installation is already being developed in a Seddon tractor and the Iveco Group company has confirmed that ISM will be available with both the mid-range T6 Strato and fullwidth Ti StratoCruiser cabs.

Cummins ISM line-up will cover ratings from 305-440hp with torque outputs from 1,5002,100Nm. There will also be an ESP (Electronic Smart Power) option based on the M305E with variable torque ranging from 1,450-1,700Nm.

Following an unsuccessful attempt to launch the StratoCruiser with the Cummins 14-litre engine back in 1996 Seddon has quietly reentered the premium tractor market with a 4x2 and 6x2 StratoCruiser line-up. They're currently powered by the Cummins M11 and use a big-Abadged version of the Iveco EuroStar high-roof cab.

CM understands that there are no plans to offer a Cursor engine in a Strato tractor, but the arrival of the ISM (in particular the M440E version) will help the StratoCruiser compete more effectively against rival marques with more power on tap.

• At the recent NEC truck show, Iveco Ford boss and former Seddon managing director Giuseppe Franchi confirmed Seddon will remain active in the general haulage business.

But its immediate priority is to consolidate its recent success in the municipal sector, he adds. Seddon has recently regained market leadership in refuse collection chassis, hay ing lost out to Dennis for many years. Franchi warns that the UK tractor sector is currently suffering from poor margins as manufacturers battle for business in a reducing market.
