Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Gwent Police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man who died on a busy dual carriageway after being hit by seven vehicles, including four lorries.

The body of Lee Pocock, a Tesco employee from Newport, was found on the northbound carriageway of the A449 between Newport and Raglan at 01:30hrs on 6 April.

According to a spokeswoman for Gwent Police the drivers of all the vehicles involved were interviewed and their trucks and cars were impounded briefly for examination by accident investigators. However, the death is not being treated as suspicious.

"The drivers were all in a state of shock," she says. "Sometimes, because of the height of their cabs above the road, truck drivers don't always know what it is they've hit, so it's been a very traumatising experience for them."

Pocock is understood to have been drinking heavily at pubs in the nearby town of Caerleon a few hours earlier. He then walked to the outskirts of the town where he apparently lay down on a minor road at one point, causing a car to stop and its occupants to get out before he ran away.

Police are still unsure of what happened next and are appealing for witnesses who can help them trace the chain of events which led to his death.
