El Wigan haulier Steve Edwards is to face charges of tachograph offences less than two months after one of his drivers was exposed for driving while disqualified for a drink-driving offence (CM 11-17 March).

Edwards, who runs Steve Edwards Transport, will appear at Wigan Magistrates Court on 7 May. His first appearance at court, scheduled for 26 March, was adjourned.

Last month Brian Coulton, who drove 38-tonne artics for Edwards, was put on probation for 18 months and ordered to do 100 hours' community service.

Coulton had not told his employer of his disqualification and had illegally driven more than 29.000km. He also pleaded guilty to a number of daily and weekly rest offences.
