TWO strikes of' TGWU members which' have

resulted in many of the 250 Esso garages in the Birmingham area being without petrol and 1,500 public houses being without draught beer, continued this week.

Strike number one, now in. its fourth week, involves ISO tanker drivers and operatives at Esso's Bromford Bridge depot, Birmingham, who are protesting over the management recruiting from sources other than the union's Birmingham office, The company says it reserves the right to recruit labour from any source and denies the existence of any agreement.

As a result of this dispute, fuel supplies for GPO vans in Birmingham are running low and industrial production is threatened, The men • were meeting again yesterday (Thursday).

Strike number two involves 127 draught beer delivery drivers at the Bass, Mitchells and Butlers brewery at Smethwick. On Tuesday the men decided to stay out and not to meet again until there is an approach from the management. The I,400-strong brewery branch of the union have pledged support for the strikers and this could mean it spreading.

They are demanding changes in their bonus scheme which would mean another £2 10s. a week. The management say the scheme was accepted by the men six months ago.

'A.g.mof Yorkshire TRTA: Last week the first a.g.m. of the Yorkshire division of the TRTA in its new form was held at Doncaster. in his annual report the chairman said that with the new organization the division had been able to make more detailed investigation and observations on traffic proposals than otherwise would have been possible.
