Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The scale of the Hanover Show is mindboggling. According to its organisers, the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA), the city's 61st International Commercial Vehicle Show will feature 1,400 exhibitors from 45 countries.

It's a sign of the times that they include about 40 firms from Central and Eastern Europe and a number from the booming Chinese truck industry. "No other trade show offers more vehicle presentations," says Bernd Gottschalk, chief executive of the GermanAssociation of the Automotive Industry (VDA).

"Following the severe consolidation of the number of motor shows in Europe, the IAA CV Show has emerged as the most important and extensive international trade show with the highest profile, mirroring the breadth of the commercial vehicle program just as it does the suppliers' presence and financial services."

Gottschalk is predicting a record-breaking number of visitors at the show, and he is probably right.

Over the past 12 months most truck and van manufacturers have updated their ranges, so don't look for any major launches from the major players at this year's show; instead the emphasis will be on vehicle enhancements.

Previews and debuts

One possible highlight at Hanover is a new telematics offering from Daf. In true Daf style, the company is late to the party in this area, but expect its product Lobe well thought out.

Also new from the Dutch will be a hybrid engine;like the competition, it is keen to come up with low-emission options.

lveco's new Daily was launched earlier in the summer; it will make its European debut at I lanover. where we also expect to see a revamped Stralis. Renault's new Master van, with a reworked engine and updated cab, was launched to the press in August; it too will make its first public appearance at Hanover. as will the Volvo FL/FE.

Volvo, like Dat, will be unveiling its hybrid technology: in this case a parallel hybrid system in which electric and diesel motors can work independently of each other. The Volvo hybrid is based on the D7 unit and is said to cut fuel consumption by 35°,10.
