HEATHROW-BASED Watkins & Sole has underlined its reputation as one of the country's fastest growing airfreight hauliers by multiplying its profits by more than five times.

In the financial year to January 2006, the family-owned business boosted its pre-tax profits from f.20,919 to 1501.

At the same time turnover rose by nearly 11% to f5.39m and the number of distribution staff it employs rose from 144 to 157.

The 140-vehicle firm has depots at Heathrow, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol airports.

Operations director Anthony Watkins says:"We had a very good year last year;we can't complain. It was all about picking up contracts at the right time."
