Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Ford Transit, Vans

• The driver of a Transit van leapt from the cab while it was travelling at between 20 and 30mph after police tried to pull it over for a routine check.

Police later discovered the van and twoaxle trailer containing slabs of turf had been stolen from the Leamington area.

A police patrol car was following the van northbound on the •69 last week when officers decided to make a routine check. But instead of stopping, the van driver pulled on to the hard shoulder, slowed to between 20 and 30mph and then leapt out of the cab on to the nearside lane.

The Transit narrowly missed another vehicle, collided with the central barrier and finally stopped when it smashed into a fence.

Warwickshire police said it was miraculous that no-one was hurt.

"The driver was extremely lucky not to have been run over," said Inspector Colin Rust. "He appeared to survive unscathed and got to his feet and ran off towards an awaiting vehicle, which we believe was being driven by an accomplice. We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident. Clearly it is going to stick in your mind as it is not the sort of thing that happens every day."
