Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

It was out with the old and in with the new as Iveco launched its all-new engine for the EuroCargo range last week. The Italian manufacturer announced its engine a few days before its first public showing at the IM Show in Frankfurt.

The Euro 3-compliant Tector common-rail engine will be installed into the 6-10-tonne EuroCargo range, eventually replacing the long-established 8000Series engine. UK customers can place orders from next month with deliveries due to start in January 2001.

In all Iveco has introduced three fourlitre engines and four six-litre versions—

but Iveco Ford's UK range will only include two four-litre and two six-litre variants.

it's an important launch for Iveco and the award-winning EuroCargo, nee Cargo, especially following Renault's successful launch of the Midlum. Iveco is keen to retain its status as market leader in five countries including the UK.

The decision to spend four years building a completely new engine was inspired by the unsuitability of the 8000 Series for the Euro-3 emissions limit. Iveco believes that the Tector's design wit make it ready for Euro-4—which was felt to be out of reach for the outgoing engines. lveco is backing its technology by extending service times and reducing maintenance needs. It has also made changes to the cab interior but was able to resist the temptation to alter the exterior: the only difference UK road users will see is the Tector signature on the grille.

The lower-powered 3.92-litre, four-cylinder Tector engine is the E15, which puts out 147hp (110kW) at 2,700rpm and gives a peak torque of 490Nm at 1,215 rpm. The second, more powerful engine for the UK market is the E17, rated at 167hp (125kW) and with 560Nm (413Ibft) of torque at 1,200rpm.

The 5.88-litre, six-cylinder engine variants start with the E18, which produces 179hp (134kW) at 2,700rpm with 570Nm (420Ibft) of torque at 1,200rpm. The most powerful version available to British operators will be the 206hp (154kW) E21, with a peak torque of 680Nm (5021bft) at 1,200rpm.

The Tector range has high specific power outputs: up to 42,7hp/lit on the fourcylinder engines and 46hp/lit on the sixcylinder range. Iveco says it is designed to offer its diverse market "class-leading performance with economy and reliability".

More internal oilways have been incorporated, with fewer external pipes to give a cleaner design. Its steel casings are also designed to reduce noise emissions. Additional noise reduction measures include an enclosed tappet area and isolated steel pan. Iveco has installed

a Bosch electronic fuel-management system, with the electronic engine control unit (ECU) mounted directly on the engine.

With the new engine comes a series of new warranties with extended service intervals of 40-65,000km and oil/filter changes at 50-80,000km. Routine servicing costs are said to be "reduced to a minimum".
