Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Commercial vehicle registrations are still rising. The latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show 14,269 registrations in August, up 5.6% on last year, while year-to-date registrations are also up, by 4.9% to 190,234.

Light CVs account for the bulk of the increase, with a 16.4% jump in August registrations to 7,244. Triaxle tractors lead the NV heavies, with 34.351 HGV's registered so far this year up by 4.90.70.

Citroan and Vauxhall continue to perform well while Suzuki registrations more than doubled to overtake Daihatsu. Ford and Renault both lost ground.

Scania still shows the biggest increase in registrations year-to-date, rising to 4,485; while Mercedes-Benz and Volvo are the only two manufacturers to suffer falling registrations.

As part of the government's drive to bring the price of cars in line with Europe, car manufacturers have cut their list prices by up to £14,600.
