• JA Robertson & Co (Fruiterers) hopes to create at least four jobs for seasonal drivers after buying the assets of collapsed general haulier Inverness-based Nu West Transport.

JA Robertson will use the Nu West Transport name as well as the goodwill and viable contracts acquired among the assets to increase its penetration into the Western Isles.

Don Williamson, managing director of JA Robertson, says: We have bought No West in order to grow the company and, although there will undoubtedly be new business and new jobs created, as it only happened three weeks ago it is too early to say exactly when and how many." He hopes that more jobs will be created by the end of the year but is unable to say whether the eight drivers laid off when Nu West collapsed will benefit.
