Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Department of Transport should re-examine the regulations on drivers hours and rest periods to see if they take account of the body's "natural need for regular rest" warns Brake, the campaign for safe haulage. Brake made its plea after Road Safety Minister Steven Norris called on car drivers to take a 15-minute rest every two hours and to avoid long journeys overnight.

Brake director Mary Williams says: "While a professional coach or lorry driver will obviously be more used to long-distance driving than the average car driver, we believe the current rules governing HGV and PSV driver hours must be thoroughly investigated by the DOT to assess whether they are in conflict with the human body's natural need for regular rest."
