Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A diesel engine pneumaticgovernor tester introduced by Leslie Hartridge checks governcrs of this type under controlled conditions while fitted to a diesel fuel injection pump. It operates the governor under its normal working load by applying a vacuum from a hand operated pump. Checks are carried out on a fuel-pump test stand, the units being attached to the stand or placed on a workbench adjacent to it. No external supply is required.

The tester has a highly sensitive and easily read vacuum gauge which will detect and register small changes of vacuum. A restrictor acts as a safety damping device and prevents damage to the gauge in the event of the connecting pipe between the pump body inlet and the pneumatic governor being suddenly removed at the end of the test. A relief valve provides additional protection for the gauge; it is fitted to the rear of the pump casting.

The vacuum pump is constructed from a two-piece aluminium casting, the internal moving parts being chromium plated to resist corrosion. Should the pneumatic governor under test be fitted with two pipe connections instead of one, a blanking plug is supplied to seal the outlet on the atmospheric side of the butterfly valve.

Additionally, adaptors are supplied to fit most types of pneumatic governor.
