a customer, Brown and Poison, Ltd., have started regular deliveries of liquid glucose in bulk to a factory overseas." The consumers, Beecham Foods, Ltd., are using liquid glucose at the Lucozade factory in Northern Ireland. To date, deliveries of this commodity were by 5-cwt.•• drums delivered through the normal commercial channels.
A regular bulk delivery service has now been started, by which a road tanker loads glucose at the Brown and Poison factory _in Trafford Park, Manchester, and crosses on the Preston–Larne route. The vehicle with load intact drives to the Lucozade factory, discharges its cargo and returns by the 'next available ferry to its Manchester base.
The cost of delivery to the supplier is considerably increased as, in this case, the tanker returns empty. However, the service to the customer is considered more important. Beecham Foods, Lid., will benefit both in reduced cost of material as delivered and also in the reduced handling charges of the glucose within the Lucozade factory.
