Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

At the heart of a new power station, this stator will help to provide additional electricity for homes and factories. But now it presents a problem. It cannot be economically broken down or transported piecemeal for on-site assembly. For maximum efficiency in design and economy in production, it must be factory manufactured as one unit. But a unit weighing 150 tons is quite a load. Too big a load for rail transportation, for example. In any case, the nearest railhead is miles, from the stator's destination. Too big for road transport? Not if it's carried by Pickfords on a Crane trailer, transporters of the world's heaviest loads for more than 30 years.

And to Cranes came the request that led to the building of this mighty 40 wheel hydraulically suspended trailer, which handles its load with ease and can, in fact, handle one-piece loads weighing up to 230 tons. It is the largest and most advanced road transporter ever built in this country—and in the world.

Yet despite its massive carrying power, this giant transporter.can be assembled 'around' the load on the factory floor and the frame then lifted hydraulici into position for travelling. This same hydrai action enables the trailer to negotiate humpbz bridges and other obstructions, or to be lowered passing under railway arches. And at journey's ei the transporter carries its load right into position the pad before the frame is lowered and withdrawr In other words, this giant is as much a mechanil handling device as a transporter, simplifying asseml and loading problems beyond all belief.

All in all, this transporter is a great achievement. F Crane Trailers, who built it; for Pickfords He Haulage Service, which commissioned the transpor and organised this first of many trips; and 1 British industry—truly industry moves forward Crane Trailers.

You may never need a trailer of this capacity, course, but Cranes manufacture every size of trail for -every kind of load—from 2 to 230 tons. So you've a load to move
