PEYLON'S Minister of Transport has stated that bus nationalization must be completed within three years. He has rejected a recommendation of an official study group that the take-over should be spread over a period of eight years.

Nationalization will begin in Colombo next year. Of the 232 buses that will be required for the new services in that area, no more than 42 are likely to be taken over from existing operators.

Because of their bad condition, a maximum of 800 of the 4,000 buses at present run by the island's 80 operators will be acquired for the State undertaking.

The proposed transport board will have a capital outlay of between Rs.203m. and Rs.227m. it is estimated that the annual net profit will be 43.4m. Some 30,000 workers will be employed and about 4,000 buses will be run. There will be 21 depots, 42 subdepots, a central workshop and central administration.

OBITUARY

WE regret to announce the deaths of icv MR. 3. C. BURTON, M. A. G. BARRET1 and MR. R. C. J. GOODYER.

Mr, Burton was a founder-director of the John Bull Rubber Co., Ltd., and honorary president of the group. With his brother he founded the company in 1906, when it was known as the Leicester Rubber Co. He was chairman until he retired last April.

Mr. Barrett, -who was 75, was a director of John Bull from 1913 until his retirement in 1946. _ Mr. Goodyer, who was only 43, had been traffic superintendent of Coventry Transport Department since 1947.

GLASGOW BANS PARKING

PARKIN G has been banned in 12 more streets of Glasgow from noon until 6 p.m. Unilateral parking has been introduced in certain other streets from 8 a.m.. until 6 p.m. These moves are part of the corporation's plan gradually to close the city centre to daytime parking.

Heyman, managing director, has stated that productivity can be improved only by raising efficiency, and companies should encourage employees to attend classes to further their teehnieal education.
