MAN-ERF will supply 5,000 trucks to replace the MoD's current four, eight and 14-tonners, starting in 2007.The new trucks are due to stay in service for 20 years.

The MoD is also considering an option to buy several thousand additional vehicles Defence Procurement Minister Lord Bach says troops will get vehicles which are far more capable than their predecessors.

Des Evans, regional chief executive of MAN-ERF, says the company is "looking forward to pursuing a true partnership with the MoD to optimise the operational capability and cost benefits of MAN vehicles", MAN has previously told CM that the UK content of its MoD vehicles will be between 60% and 80%, creating 628 new jobs and safeguarding more than 400.

Trucks will then transfer to the various specialist equipment suppliers, returning to Middlewich for final pre-delivery checks.
