A MERSEYSIDE car transporter ordered to find new premises because of neighbours' complaints has appealed to the North Western Traffic Commissioner, Beverley Bell, for an extension to the six-month time limit it was given in February. For the company, Tim Cidpin said that the planned purchase of anew operating centre had fallen through due to legal problems.

DM & JD Hall (Vehicle Service), trading as Halls Vehicle Service, was seeking to add two vehicles and three trailers to its licence for 16 vehicles and 16 trailers at its operating centre at Byron Road, Crosby, at the five-year review stage. Evidence was given that the site, which the company had used for 40 years, was at the end of a cul-de-sac.

There was ample parking space and no problem with the access. However, due to the narrowness of adjacent Byron Road, it was not possible for two vehicles to pass each other. The problem was exacerbated by parked vehicles.

MD John Hall said it was still the company's firm intention to relocate as soon as it possibly could. Compliance with the undertakings had cost implications as drivers were having to have extra nights out because they cannot return to the yard after 8pm.

In reply to theTC, Hall said that the purchase of the new premises had fallen through at the end of August, as the lease did not allow the site to be sub-divided.

Residents told the TC that they were still having road safety and environmental problems.

The TC commented that the undertakings did not appear to have solved the problems. She is to announce her decision in writing.
