'Safety pins'

LATEST product to come from Britax (London) Ltd. is termed the "safety pin of the packaging industry". It is the Span Set—a range of Terylene webbing lashings to tie down and fasten all types of packages. The Span Set system is ideal for handling palletized goods, fragile cargo, equipment in transit and all cased and uncased materials. The lashings consist of a specially developed 100 per cent polyester Terylene webbing with a lever lock. They are made in various webbing widths and lever sizes that give strengths from 450 to 6,600 lb. One man can apply and release the lashings in seconds. The Span Sets have low elasticity yet a high abrasion resistance; they are resilient to attacks from fuels and lubricants and withstand all climatic conditions.

Pull clamp

T ATEST addition to the range of

Blackhawk Dozer accessories is the EK-182 multi-directional pull clamp, capable of taking a pull from different directions without change of position. This is most important as the direction of pull changes when a pull is applied with the Dozer.

The wide jaw ensures firm grip over a wide panel area and lessens the risk of tearing the metal. The pulling eye swivels in an arc-shaped slot at the rear of the clamp and automatically aligns itself with the direction of pull. Inside the clamp body, the conical end of the eye-bolt rides up the tapered lips of the slot, opening slightly the back of the jaws and closing the front to ensure a tighter grip as the load increases.

Expendable container

THE Octabin expendable bulk container should have a particular impact on exports of chemicals, plastics and other powders and granular products. It consists of an eight-sided sleeve of multi-watt corrugated fibreboard with the top and bottom end caps of single wall board on a square expendable wooden single-decked pallet. Protection is by a polythene inner lining.

Capacities can be supplied to special order. Standard model Oetabins are available in capacities of 50 and 60 cu. ft. with pallets 40 in. and 42 in. sq. respectively. The overall dimensions have been chosen to give economical loading on standard road vehicles including international TIR road trailers. Made by: Severn Valley Chemical Industries Ltd., 1 Henbury Road, Westbury-onTrym, Bristol.

Fire-beaters

GRADUALLY replacing poisonous carbon tetrachloride-based fire extinguishers on commercial and public service vehicles are dry powder fire extinguishers—rated as more powerful, weight for weight, than any other extinguishant. Dry powder provides the quickest flame "knockdown" possible, is non-toxic, does not conduct electricity, cannot freeze and is safe for use in a confined space. Britain's largest specialist manufacturer of dry powder fire extinguishers is Firemaster Extinguishers Ltd., with a range of sodium and potassium bicarbonate-based models—each covered by a three-year guarantee. Made by: Firemaster Extinguisher Ltd., "Firex Works", Friendly Place, Lewisham. Road, London SE13.

All the facts

FACTS and figures of 1965 compared with previous years on the British motor industry and motor industries overseas are the meat of The Motor Industry of Great Britain /966-20th edition in the current series.

Bringing together in one volume data which would otherwise mean research into documents from many sources, the book has comprehensive sections on all commercial motor vehicles.

For reference, it is invaluable.

CRYPTON Equipment has introduced a new range of small battery chargers —HC2, HC4 and HC7—with increased outputs more in keeping with modern battery needs. They provide a high initial charge which automatically reduces to a safe level as the battery becomes charged. The HC7 opens up new markets as a dual-rate charger. For fast "boosting" a "flat" battery it will charge at 7 amps but for normal overnight charging, it can be adjusted to 2-3 amps through a simple "boost-normal" switch. Outputs: HC2, 1-2 amp RMS 6-12 volts; HC4, 2-4 amp RMS 6-12 volts; HC7, 5-7 amp RMS 6-12 volts and 2-3 amp RMS 6-12 volts. A modern design frameless meter is fitted to the HC4 and HC7. This is unbreakable and gives a particularly clear reading of the charging rate. The mains and battery voltage tapping plugs are now concealed for safety but are quite easily reached when necessary. Made by: Crypton Equipment, Bridgwater, Somerset.

Price: HC2, £4 9s. 6d.; HC4, £5 9s. 6d.; HC 7, £7 19s. 6d.
