The driver slowly recovered consciousness after an accident at the junction of three lanes. "Where am I?" he asked ; but no one was there to answer him, so he began to work things out for himself. The first object his wandering gaze encountered was a worm-eaten signpost, one arm broken, the other two illegible. "I'm in England," he said. Then a growing sense of discomfort made him realize that he was lying in a cold pool, whilst the wind howled and hail beat down on him from a lowering sky.
"Yes,' he repeated, "I'm in England, and it's summer! "
