Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Bird's Eye View By The Hawk

AT last British Railways have admitted—not publicly, but to their staff—that an agreement has been concluded with the Central Electricity Authority for the transfer of coal from road to rail. They say that millions of tons of coal will be coming back to rail. They need it.

Definition

BUOYANT TRAFFIC: A state in which rail passenger receipts drop by only £1.3m. in 36 weeks. The definition is by Sir Brian Robertson, chairman of the British Transport Commission.

Simms Theatre

1/TR. G. E. LIARDET, chairman of Simms Motor Units, Ltd., 'VI has a special interest in the theatre. That may be why the new canteen building which has been provided for employees, at a cost of more than £100,000, includes a theatre accommodating 500 people.

But, as he pointed out at the official opening earlier this month, the workers have had to earn the money to erect this splendid building, with its staff dining rooms, main dining rooms, games rooms and social club. The requirements of the u36 production departments naturally had a first call on finance, but staff welfare has not been neglected. The knowledge that they have earned the new amenities should give the workers particular pride in them.

They Fell Out

THE Teesside Railless Traction Board were objectors at a recent local inquiry with a difference. It was into planning permission for a large new coke-oven plant at Cargo Fleet, near Middlesbrough. The Board formally objected on the grounds that they feared the "fall-out from the plant would damage the paintwork of their buses.

Well Wishers

NAR. C. W. WROTH had a great send-off into retirement ivl after 16 years as general manager of the Potteries Motor Traction Co., Ltd., Mr. R. Bailey, the traffic manager, tells me. Presentations were made to him on behalf of no fewer than nine groups of his old associates, including two from the local branch and executive committee of the Transport and General Workers' Union. Another came from local operators.
