THE Northern Licensing Authority, Mr J. A. T. Hanlon, said at Carlisle last week that he was going to investigate a letter written to him by Harrison's Lime Works, Ltd., Flusco, near Penrith.

He pointed out that on Thursday they supported a haulier's B-licence application on the ground that they needed transport, yet on Friday another haulier told him that he could not get traffic from them.

Mr. Hanlon was giving his decision on an application by Mr. George Clark, Wetheral, near Carlisle, who wanted his B licence varied to allow him to carry road and building materials within a radius of 80 miles for various concerns.

Mr. Hanlon said the case raised a grave issue in the licensing law. Mr. Clark claimed that since April, Harrison's Lime Works had refused to give him work except for three loads. The previous day, however, a haulier who was a distant relative of one of the directors gained support from the company, who said they needed all the transport they could get.

"I have not come to any final conelusion;' said Mr. Hanlon. "I think the proper thing for me to do is to put this matter back for investigation."

He adjourned part of Mr. Clark's application, but added one name to the list of companies for whom •114r. Clark was licensed to work,
