Wincanton's chief executive urges CILT to 'raise its profile'

WINCANTON CHIEF executive Graeme McFaull (right) told the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) that it is vital its profile is raised and stressed the need to "garner greater support from the industry".

McFaull gave the warning to some of the biggest names in the logistics industry at an inaugural lunch held in London last week.

He added: "There is an inconsistent approach to professional development in many companies, which needs to change, and involvement in the institute — which has worked hard in recent years to become a more focused and relevant body for its members can be a catalyst for change."

McFaull said that while the institute had about 20,000 UK members, it could count on only a handful of businesses as corporate members. "While I can see the untapped potential for improving this ratio, I am surprised the institute does not have the recognition it deserves by the organisations that represent its key target audience."

McFaull will hold the presidency until May 2010, and succeeds Eurostar UK chief executive Richard Brown.
