A Tesco spokeswoman says: "As a short-term solution, goods are being transported on one of our larger vehicles, which delivers to several stores, then we are using a hybrid vehicle solely to deliver the goods to the Express store.

But local resident Barry Hammick was surprised that the supermarket does not have replacement vehicles.

"It is promoting the fact that its vehicles use less CO2. These are the vehicles the population of Manningtree are seeing, which may not be saving CO2 emissions," Harrunick says.
