Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

diesel price rise protests. Much can be achieved by putting one's point of view in a forceful, but peaceful manner.

The public seems to think (if it thinks at all) that it is the haulier's decision that goods go by road, when in fact it is the manufacturer's.

When facing criticisms from whatever quarter (why is it that those who have nothing to do with the industry always have the most to say?) I would simply suggest the following options: • Carry it on your back.

• Live more modestly— don't buy it.

• Write to manufacturers offering to pay what it takes for goods to go by rail. Put bluntly, pay up or shut up.

The attempts by successive governments to curb the criminal element in the industry are pathetic. Frankly, I do not think they want to do anything—if everybody behaved it would stop the lucrative fines. While realising it is easy to be objective when one is not involved, I am nevertheless always surprised by the publicity that a truck accident incurs. However horrendous an airplane accident is (for example), I have never heard any suggestions that planes should be made smaller or carry fewer passengers.

Congratulations on your excellent publication, which I buy every week. I much appreciate its high standard: it is always fresh, informative and interesting.
