added yet another engine option to its heavy truck line-up in the shape of the Caterpillar C10 (right).

ERF already offers the 12-litre C12 in its EC range at 380 and 410hp; the charge-cooled, electronically controlled C10 will be available rated at 340, 355 and 380hp. The two engines are the same size with a weight difference of just 7kg—ERF says it will have to do little engineering work to fit the C10. There are now 29 official engine options in the EC range, which ERF claims is the most offered by any manufacturer in Europe. The engine line-up includes Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel and Perkins.

News of the adoption of the C10 broke at last week's CMTruckfest.

ERF's arch-rival, Foden, is also fitting the 10.3-litre in-line six C10 in its latest Alpha 3000 range; it is carrying out noise and cooling trials in Holland with a C12 fitted in its 4000 Series. The prototype C12 4000 Series was shown at last month's TipCon Show.
