HAULIERS had a good day at the Birmingham LDoY round on Sunday which this year was held at the GKN Smethwick site instead of Fort Dunlop. G. McMullen (BRS) won Pass G with a loss of only 112 points—the day's best. Runner-up on points in the contest, N. Chalener, of W. Allport and Son, the Sutton Coldfield haulier, won Pass C with a loss of 131 points. Another haulier's driver S. Hack (A. G. Lowe and Sons) came first in Class D with 171 points.

No one bettered McMullen's 40 penalty points in the Highway Code test which was far below the average of the winners. The Highway Code test favoured the drivers of big vehicles because it included some questions about axle loadings which proved too difficult for the drivers of smaller vehicles.

Hawleys Bakeries entered 20 of the 28 vehicles in Class A and 10 vehicles out of 33 in Class B. Company drivers won both classes but it was not just weight and numbers that counted, D. Peyton won Class A last year and his penalty points of 187 included 90 lost on the Highway Code test. At the upper end of the weight range D. Luckman deserves special mention for winning Class H for Conoco with a loss of 137 points, of which 50 were lost in the Highway Code test. Rigid Vehicles
