NO decision has yet been made about differing tolls for vehicles using the new Severn Bridge. This was made clear last week by Mr. Stephen Swingler, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, when the Bill authorizing the charging of tolls on the bridge made a swift and unimpeded passage through its committee stage. " At the moment we wish to see whether Parliament finally is going to approve the power to make the levies ", he explained.

It really would be rather high-handed of the Minister, not having yet been granted the power to levy tolls, to come forward with a whole set of ideas and indications on the presumption that this would be granted, said Mr. Swingler,
