Commer Cars, Ltd., will provide for greater capacity for bulk loads.

Commer parts are retained wherever possible, and the conversion is best carried out on a chassis with driveaway front when the steering box is tilted upwards and bracketed in position. This column is shortened by some 18 in., the original bearings, washers, seals and so on being retained. The clutch and foot-brake pedals and the accelerator pedal and bracket are repositioned as a complete assembly and bolted to the chassis members 18 in. forward of their original position.

The gear and hand-brake lever positions are not altered but the former is extended and inclined towards the engine. The result of these modifications enables the back of the cab to be brought 2 ft. farther forward than on the standard job.

The adoption of forward control greatly improves engine accessibility, and whilst the original front wings are retained, a new engine cowling and radiator grille are fabricated from 2 in. angle-section mild steel and 16-gauge sheet. A coachbuilt cab together with the platform of composite construction were manufactured by Oswald Tillotson, Ltd., Summit Works, Burnley. A representative of The Commercial Motor found that access to the fully adjustable driving seat was excellent and that visibility was greatly improved.

The unladen weight is under 3 tons with either the petrol engine or the alternative Perkins P6 power unit.
