I N the year ended June 30, 1953, the number of passengers carried by privately owned public service vehicles in the Metropolitan and Newcastle districts of New South Wales, Australia, declined by 7.6 m. The figure for 1952-53 was 87m.
Of the 792 public service vehicles registered at June 30, 1953, only 317 were powered by oil engines.
The number of passenger vehicles in service in New South Wales is now well over 400.000, a figure nearly double that for 1946.
Thirty-seven per cent, of all vehicles in the state are goods vehicles. This compares with 26 per cent. at June 30, 1938.
