An interesting example of the ninny uses to which the Girling parscicar can be putis forthcoming 5eorn a letter, which has been ss,binitted to us, from Mr. A. Cecil Kent, the principal of Messrs. Horsham Commercial Motors, Worthing Road Engineering Works, Horsham, Sussex.

In this communication Mr. Kent says, of the two machines which are shown in the photograph reproduced herewith, that the small van was taken when it, was well loaded for a special run from Handcross to Bradfield College, near Reading. The total distance on that trip was 1371 miles, and the time taken, in

eluding stops for meals, was 111, hours. The load consisted of a chest of dra.wers12,nacked with clothes, a table, various trunks. boxes, bags and packing eases, all stuffed with goods and small articles. The fuel consumption, using one-third paraffin and twothirds heavy petrol, was over 30 miles to the gallon, and the "whole job went through without a hitch."

The other machine shown in the photograph—that with the canopy —had, up to the 2nd May, run 5000 miles without any trouble at all. It is to he given a general :overhaul within the next week mess>.

It has to be noted that the carburetter employed on this parcelcar is an ordinary " Senspray" without any special adjustments. The performance quoted above is certainly good testimony to the efficacy of this device. The general manager of New Girling Commercial Cars, Ltd., writes to us that "the Girling ear was never designed or intended for furniture removal, but judging from the photograph, it bids fair to become a serious rival to its. older and bigger brother-the pantechnicon."
