Jubilation has raced through the legendar) Ironworks, home of the Spagthorpe Motoi Company, this week like a thousand whooping shrieking maniacs running through the factor) all desperate to impart their good news, onl) not so dramatic. And without the possible health and safety violations.

The delight comes at news oi S MC's purchase of Polish transportation manufacturer Zatislav Jakobowski and Sons. The deal includes Jakobowsld's extensive factory complex in Gdansk and a number of other assets including what SMC chairman and president for life Sir Jos Spagthorpe has described as "prime development land" on the outskirts of the charming industrial town of Bydgoszcz.

The Jakobowski range is still a great secret in the West but the accompanying photograph shows its premium urban delivery vehicle—the Gdobbin. With

d zhp output and no emissions that can't be cleaned up with a shovel the Gdobbin looks an ideal model for the UK's highly regulated inner-city multi-drop market. Also pictured are chief engineer Vaclaw Narkolepczi and chairman of the Socialist Workers Alliance Zgbi new Apopleczi.

A delighted Sir Jos says: "It's a proud moment for us all at SMC to make t'purchase. T'extra manufacturing capacity and cheap labour that this plant provides will mean that we can soon shut VIronworks and move everythin' to Poland...

"I mean, rationalise our over'eads and look for a long-term future for both plants. And t'land in Bydgo-wotsit'll make me a pretty penny an' all." FLASH: Following a report from SMC representatives to Bydgoszcz the deal has been cancelled after Sir Jos discovered that the "prime development land" was in fact zo acres of smouldering slag heaps and heavy industrial waste. "Sounds just like Wombwell," said a depressed Spagthorpe.
