" Yorkshire Evening Post." During the "glacial period the wife of one of the editorial staff of that journal had to drive in her small . car from Huddersfield to Leeds, but near the crest of several hills the rear wheels refused to grip, and heavy transport was being held up. The lorry drivers, however, instead of being disgruntled, helped on each such occasion to boost the little vehicle over the crest. As a result, the woman owner dubbed one of the biggest drivers, Prince Charming. He was, at first, astonished, but entered into the joke by performing a little pirouette with his hand on his hip, much to the amazement and amusement of his mates, who had not heard the talk. A N interesting development 1-k by the Bristol Aeroplane Co., Ltd., is the system of unit construction buildings, known as ' Uni-rect." It is designed for any climatic conditions and employs non-corrodible aluminiumalloy components, giving great strength, lightness and ease of transport. Thus a building 36 ft. long, 12 ft. wide, and 8 ft. 6 ins, high to the eaves, can be packed into three crates formed by its own floorboards, giving a volume of 200 cubic ft., compared with 5,000 cubic ft. when assembled. The total weight is about 4 tons. Erection on a concrete site is simple, quick and economical of labour. The walls and roof are filled with Onazote, an expanded-ebonite product. Buildings, such as garages, of almost any size can be erected and additions made as required with little difficulty.

Interesting Research RESEARCHES with liquid Into Qualities of Liquid "helium have been carried Helium out by Yale University. A temperature within 0.01 degree of absolute zero (approximately —273 degrees C.) has been reached. This compares with the lowest which is said ever to have been recorded on the face of the earth, i.e., —68 degrees C. in Siberia. At temperatures approaching the absolute zero, iron and steel shatter like glass if struck. The same effect would occur in the case of a finger, if anyone were unwise enough to dip it into the liquid. A curious discovery has been what is called "second sound," which is inaudible to the human ear and, apparently, does not occur in any other liquid apart from helium, and in this only at extremely low temperatures. This means that the liquid has a vibration periodicity too high to be within the human range.

American Haulage A N American haulier was reMen's Union to Pay " cently awarded about Damages £.1,000 damages arising from an illegal two-day strike of some of his employees. They had refused to work as the result of an inter-union dispute between union officials and the strikers. The union was held to be to blame, because, whilst its officials did not order or sanction the stoppage, they had not availed themselves of many existing remedies to terminate or minimize the damage to the haulier, and made no attempt to supply replacement men; also, no disciplinary action had been taken against the strikers. Many British hauliers must be envious of their U.S. counterparts.
