Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Principal Exhibits :— 1416h.p. Char-abanes; 16h.p. Van ; Engine.

This company was unfortunately unable to get the two 24-3oli.p. omnibus chassis ready in time for the show, and, therefore, its exhibit is confined to a 1416h.p. char-a-bancs seating 22 passengers, and a 14-16h.p. delivery van for 2-ton loads. It is, also, showing the back axle of a double-deck omnibus chassis, so that the details of its construction can be readily seen. This axle is fitted with ball bearings, and is a very strong and workmanlike job.

The two vehicles shown are fitted on identically similar chassis, so that it is only necessary to describe one.

The two-cylinder engine is situated underneath the driver's foot-board, so that he commands an excellent view of the road, and the overall length of the chassis is considerably reduced. The

cylinders are 44 inches bore, and the piston-stroke is 5,1i inaes, the engine being designed to give 14b.h.p, at 75or.p.m. The ignition is high-tension, by accumulator and coil. Specially large radiators are fitted, one portion occupying the ordinary position in front of the engine and the other portion, above this, acting as a dash-board. very neat and effective throttle is fitted to the carburetter, of which an illustration is shown. The throttling is effected

by a sleeve moving in the inductionpipe, with a large aperture for the outlet, and with a number of triangular openings for the inlet. rhe triangular slots are brought opposite to rectangular slots in the outer casing, through which the mixture enters the sleeve, and, as the throttle closes, a much finer gradation is provided for light loading. By means of the triangular openings much more uniform gradation is obtained for all positions of the throttle lever.

Splash lubrication is provided, with gravity feed. Transmission is by an internal-expanding clutch, to a gearbox of the solid type, which provides three forward speeds and a reverse. The final drive is by live axle, and the bevel crown wheel on the differential is of very large diameter. One pedal actuates band-brakes on the hubs of the road wheels, and the hand-brake, which is of a novel character, as will be seen from the illustration, acts on a drum at the back-end of the gear-box. This " helix" brake is so arranged that a quarter of a revolution of the shaft, provided with a lever at one end, fcrees in both ends of the band-brake equally, by means of right-hand and Left-hand helices contained in the two casings. Proper provision has been made for tightening up the two ends.
