Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Exhibit :-40h.p. Bus Chassis ; 2-ton Lorry ; 14h.p. Cab Chassis.

The company is showing two 4oh.p. I3erliet omnibus chassis with frames constructed of channel iron. The cylinders are cast in pairs, and have a bore of 4.8 inches, whilst the piston-stroke is 5.6 inches. The normal speed of the engine is Soo revolutions per minute, which gives 13.75 miles per hour upon the road. Simms-Bosch magneto igni don is adopted; this is driven from the inlet camshaft. The centrifugal pump is gear-driven from the exhaust camshaft, and is of large capacity. Halfcompression cams are fitted, and these, in addition to the normal ones, are cut from the solid. The timing wheels are enclosed in an oil-tight casing. A large fan is driven from the fore-end of the crankshaft by a wide fiat belt. The radiator is of the gilled-tube type; this contains enough water for a long day's running, and, therefore, dispenses with the necessity for a water tank.

The engine is lubricated by a pump, which is driven from the rear end 01 the inlet camshaft. This pump su:7ks oil from a reservoir, and delivers it to a s,:tries of s:glit-feals upon the dash, from whence it is delivered by oil-leads to the bearings. The clutch is of the multiple-disc type, which gives an easy starting effect, and is, at the same time, very effective in action. The feature of the Berliet clutch is that the back end of the crankshaft is drilled longitudinally, which allows oil to pass from the base chamber, through the duct, and into the clutch box, thus forming an automatic lubricating arrangement.

The gear-Lox has four speeds, the third and fourth of which are " direct drive." This is obtained by mounting two pinions loosely upon the secondary shaft in the gear-box. The plate-wheel of the differential gear has two rings of teeth in which the two pinions mesh. Either pinion can be locked upon the shaft by a dog clutch actuated by one of the three change-speed selector rods. All the gear shafts are large in diameter, and these, and the gear wheels, arc made from a special grade of steel.

Ample braking power is provided. There are two separate foot brakes, each of which acts upon one of two drums on the differential shaft, inside the main frame members. The hand brake is of the internal-expansion type, and acts within drums upon the back wheels. The frame is 5i inches deep, and is narrowed at the front to permit of a 'large locking angle.
