Exhibit :—One 24h.p. Germain Bus Chassis.

. Captain Theo. Masui, of I, Hanover Court, Hanover Street, W., who is the London agent for Germain cars, is exhibiting on this stand an entirely new design of Germain omnibus chassis. A similar chassis was exhibited at the Paris Salon, but this is the first appearance of the new chassis in England. This chassis has been designed to conform strictly to the Metropolitan Police Regulations, and has a pressed-steel frame stiffened by cross-bracing, of the same type. It is fitted with a fourcylinder engine, having separate cylinders of 120mm. diameter, and a pistonstroke of 4omm. It is designed to develop 24b.h.p. at Soo revolutions per minute, but is capable of considerable acceleration.

A special feature, which at once strikes the eye, is the adoption of brass water jackets to the cylinders. A hightension magneto is employed for the ignition, and is driven off the camshaft. The advance of the spark is automatically -regulated, to accord with the speed of the engine. An automatic carburetter is fitted, and the control is by the throttle. The lubrication of the engine

is effected by a .pump, which delivers the oil to each bearing, and the clutch is of the multiple-disc type, having eighty plates, which gives a very

smooth and easy drive. The gear-box provides three forward speeds, and a reverse, operated through a gate quadrant, and is made in one with the differential countershaft casing. The v.,hole of the gears arc lubricated by a pump, which is situated at the back of the gear-box, and circulates the oil over all the bearings.

The final drive is by chains from the sprockets on the ends of the differential countershaft. The brake pedal applies two brakes, one on each half of the countershaft, and the hand-brake lever similarly operates two internal-cxpending brakes, one on each of the back wheels. The whole of this chassis will well repay careful examination and study.
