Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Exhibits:—Tipping Van and two Chassis.

Three vehicles find a place upon this

stand. The firSt is a 3-ton tipping wagon ; the second a chassis fitted with a 30-40h.p. engine; and the third is, also, a chassis, but fitted with a 12h.p. engine, and intended for lighter loads. All the above vehicles have been built at the Turgan Works, near Paris.

The vehicle which is fitted with the 30..4oh,p. motor is suited for motorbus work. The cylinders are separate castings, and the water-jackets extend nearly down to thc bottom of the cylinders. The timing wheels are entirely enclosed, and the crankshaft has five bearings, whilst the two camshafts / have cams cut from the solid. The engine is governed by a throttle, which is controlled by a lever placed upon the steering wheel. The gear-box is divided

into three portions the upper and lower pieces are merely covers, whilst the central portion carries the bearings.

The differential shaft is in four pieces : the two outer portions are

short, and are really .,..prozket shafts, being attached to the main members by Oldham couplings.

The foot brake is of the band type, and departs from ordinary practice in as much as the band is divided into two pieces, which lie alongside each other upon the drum. The two bands are connected together by a very short cross-bar, and the rod from the foot pedal is connected to the centre of the bar. The two bands, are, therefore, compensated upon one and the same arm, which arrangement gives increased friction contact.
