Tim Hayes, prosecuting, said that an investigation showed the nearside crane stabiliser had been fully extended— human tissue was found on the end of the arm.
Safety devices which normally secured the stabiliser were in poor condition and one had broken due to fatigue. A component that was used to secure the crane was missing from the vehicle and had never been found, despite numerous searches.
For the company, David Ford said it had never compromised safety in favour of profit. "All of the vehicles used by the company underwent regular inspections to ensure they were in perfect working order," he added.
Driver Barry James, of Landore, Swansea, is due to appear in court on 26 June.
