A characteristic of the Gibson Pendulum refuse collector to be shown by John Gibson and Son, Ltd., is the low maintenance cost achieved by the use of the minimum number of working parts.

The 15-20-cu.-yd. body is mounted on an Albion FT.37.EL chassis with crew cab. The underbody compression ram is reported to have proved highly successful and be giving even greater compression than that obtained previously. Modifications include a new dust excluder to prevent dust being swept back on the return stroke of the barrier, a full-width rear step, a deeper hopper, a deeper compression face and a one-piece rear door. Glover, Webb and Liversidge, Ltd., will be showing six vehicles, of which the largest is a Transport 40-cu.-yd. hulk refuse carrier based on a Foden F.G.6/24 chassis. This machine is arranged for overhead loading from hoppers, conveyors or from tipping platforms, and is equipped with a heavyduty version of the Transport all-steel moving floor.

A 15-cwt. 4.1-cu.-yd. low-loading salvage trailer incorporates a special drawbar for use with rear-loading vehicles and independent wheel suspension.

Apart from two pedestrian-controlled Snow-Boy snow ploughs, one of which is available with a new crawler track, the Rolba Co., Ltd., are to exhibit for the first time in this country a new rotary snow plough with a driver's heated cab.

Known as the type 2012, it is powered by a Volkswagen industrial petrol engine of 28 h.p. fitted with a special gearbox giving four speeds for the road wheels and two speeds for the snowcutting and ejecting device. Steering is hydraulically operated and gives a minimum turning circle of 20 ft.

Average snow-clearing capacity is 190 tons an hour, with a clearing width of 3 ft. 3 in. to a depth of 6-7 ft. The snow-cutting device can be dismantled and replaced by a street brush or platform, enabling the machine to remain in service all through the year.

A Karrier-Transport LoadmastFr compressing refuse collector uses a method of compressing refuse which allows a much greater weight of material to be encompassed than its capacity of 20 cu. yd., excluding hopper, indicates. The fully automatic hydraulic compression mechanism embodied in the hopper at the rear of the alloy body lies under the direct control of the loaders. The crew cab seats six loaders in addition to the driver.

Among their exhibits, Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., will have a BedfordLacre sweeper powered by the new Bedford 97 b.h.p. oil engine. The machine has a front wire gutter brush and a narrow-width main brush. Both are fully floating and maintain close contact with the road. The brushes are raised hydraulically, as is the 4-cu.-yd. all-steel body. Spray nozzles below the front bumper are supplied from a 180gal. water tank.

Powered by a 5-h.p. petrol engine, the machine has since been developed and fitted with a cab, controls, two scarifying brushes, road equipment and improved suction lift.

An 800-gal. gully-emptier mounted on an Albion MR7N Claymore chassis introduces a new feature in appliances of this type—a jack-knife door on the near side, which improves cab access. Another interesting point is a stick box on the side of the chassis. This is emptied by dropping the bottom on the tip.

An 800-gal. inframe gully-emptier on a Karrier Gamecock chassis of 9-ft. 7-in. wheelbase, a 1,000-gal, cesspool-emptier with nightsoil equipment on a Karrier Superpoise 5-ton, 14-ft. 1-in.-wheelbase chassis, and a Karrier-based heavy-duty road sweeper will also be on show.

The sweeper has a strengthened rear door and an improved hydraulic motor for the scarifying brush. Body capacity is 3 Cu. yd., and 200 gal. of water can be carried. A rotary-paddle elevator enables large objectg to be picked up.
