THE RECOVERY in the CV market continues with heavy truck registrations over 6 tonnes up 42.4% and vans up 24.1% through the first six months of 2011, according to the SMMT. So far 16,197 trucks have been registered throughout 2011, putting it on course for a 30,000-plus year.

Through the first six months of the year DAF has registered 4,004 trucks, including 816 in June, with Mercedes-Benz in second with 2,458, and Volvo third with 2,193 registered, just 14 more than Scania. MAN has seen the biggest turnaround in 2011, registering 1,942 trucks, 1,183 more than in the first six months of 2010.

Figures for June 2011 saw 2,758 trucks registered over 6 tonnes, a rise of 23.9% against June 2010. Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, says truck figures rose for the ninth successive month. “Articulated trucks saw the most robust growth in the month and year-to-date figures for almost every sector were up significantly on 2010,” he says.

In the van sector, 133,238 vans up to and including 3.5-tonnes have been registered in 2011. Ford leads the way, registering 36,422 vans, twice the number of Vauxhall (18,352 units), which is second, and Volkswagen in third (15,190 units).
