Vartme Transport sells trucks on site

EAST ANGLIAN Maritime Transport has decided to move into the used truck business — it has recently set up a website to dispose of its own vehicles.

Trucks on offer include Daf, Volvo, and Scania 6x2 tractor units with around 420hp on tap. They're typically no more than two years old with a full service history. On average they've covered no more than 1,400 miles a week.

Many are still covered by the manufacturers' warranties.

"We'll have some year-old XF95 480s available a bit later in the year," says Maritime executive Matt Heath.

No dealer's margin

He points out that hauliers who buy direct from Maritime benefit because they're not paying a dealer's profit margin. "We're not really looking to take part-exchanges at present though," he wams,"and we can't offer finance ourselves because we're not licensed credit brokers."

The trucks are available for viewing at Maritime's depot network, which includes sites at Birmingham, Bristol, Southampton, Felixstowe, and Tilbury.

So how's the venture going? "The market's a bit quiet at present, but we're getting a lot of interest in what we're doing, and we're achieving the prices we're looking for." Contact: www.secondh an dtrucks.cauk
