BOB RUSSETT is leaving PalletI i ne after serving only six months as president. ending a 14-year association with the company he helped to establish.

It is thought that Russett is unhappy that volumes have declined and believes the company "is going backwards".

Russett says he is leaving to put more time into his Truckitts initiative, which aims to encourage the younger generation into the haulage industry: "This is really growing in momentum.I also want to do more with my work for Skills for Logistics and the RHA.If the right opportunity in pallets or the industry in general came up in the future I would go back."

Palletline MD Glyn Jones says: "In the past six months Bob has had less of a hands-on role as president but I don't know his motivation for leaving. We will not be looking for another president."

Jones adds that Palletline has been " hatcheting down costs" with a .5m deal signed last week to add 40% more capacity to its Birmingham hub.

Palletline chairman Ken Hackling says: "We were a little bit surprised by Bob's announcement. He was instrumental in the growth of our network from the earliest days and his contribution to this business and the pallet network in general cannot be overestimated."
