Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DESPITE WORRIES of an impending recession in the UK economy the truck market continues to hit record levels, according to sales figures released by the SMMT. Figures for the market above 3.5 tonnes to the end of June this year show registrations up nearly 7% compared with the same period last year, with the total standing at 29,464.

Lightweight chassis-cabs in the 3.5-6.0-tonne GVW sector show the fastest growth, although volumes remain relatively small, with middleweights static and the heavy truck sector above 15 tonnes up by 6.7')/0.

The two single biggest sectors remain 7.5-tonners and 6x2 tractors, which between them accounted for over 50% of all trucks registered in the first half.

Daf retains its market leading position, breaking through the 25% market share figure for the first time since the early '90s — it now claims to be market leader in virtually every single sector.

Mercedes has secured its position as number two in the market with Iveco third. though with a reduced share of the market.

Iveco appears to have been focusing on the heavy truck sector and has made some gains in the tractor market, though this has come at the expense of the Eurocargo losing its market leading position.

Other big gainers are Foden which, despite its problems, has boosted its registrations by 30%; and Volvo, which is up 29%.

The biggest losers are MANERF and Renault.

MAN and ERF registrations have slumped 29°/0 and 48% respectively, with ERF falling behind Dennis Eagle and Foden for the first time in recent years. Renault sales are down nearly 18%.
