• Wrexham owner-driver lain Sutherland was hauled before the North Western Licensing Authority for repairing his vehicle in the street outside his home.
LA Martin Albu said at the disciplinary inquiry that it was alleged that Sutherland was not keeping his vehicle at its operating centre overnight. However, the main complainant conceded that Sutherland now appeared to have "got the message'', and had stopped keeping his vehicle in the road overnight.
Traffic examiner Geoffrey Whitley said the declared operating centre was at the premises of J H Willis Transport, Gresford Bank. The company's transport manager told Whitley that the agreement for Sutherland to use those premises was still in force, but that Sutherland did not always use it for overnight parking. And Sutherland had been seen repairing a three-axled tipper outside his home in Gresford.
Sutherland maintained that he had been carrying out what he considered to be emergency repairs. He said that the throttle cable had broken and it was difficult to move the wagon. He said he did not normally carry out repairs outside his house.
Taking no action other than to record a formal warning, Albu said the point about operating centres was that people did not like heavy vehi cles parked outside' their houses.
