Ferrers, last week ruled out a separation of statistics of numbers of stolen trucks from general vehicle theft.
But he promised to speak to the Association of Chief Police Officers about stepping up the fight against truck crime.
Ferrers was speaking to a delegation including hauliers and trade associations who asked for a nationally co-ordinated specially trained truck squad.
El A truck is stolen in Britain every 35 minutes, with loads taken every 45 minutes, said the delegation.
